Margaretta Terrace House

Chelsea, London

spacer line

Many of the houses on this street are covered with wisteria and, in May, the entire neighborhood is fragrant.

Open a shiny black door and step into a long hall that has the original black and white tile floor.  Gothic-shaped mirrors line the hallway.  On the left, there is a large study-office with a bay window that looks onto the front garden.  The room is lined with hundreds of books and there is a black modern desk in the middle of the room, facing the garden.

Behind the study, there is a very nice, modern kitchen.  It has a center island with double sinks.  There is a double wall oven, an electric cook top, a microwave, a refrigerator/freezer, a bookcase that holds many cook books, a long low shelf with two stools, perfect for a quick snack.

Doors open to the attractive conservatory dining room that has a beautiful mosaic topped table to seat 8 and very nice art on the walls. French doors open onto a pretty, enclosed patio that has a fountain and a small garden area.

A TV room, just off the dining room, has a sofa bed upholstered in dark gray cotton, Sky TV and a tiny white kitchenette with a microwave and sink.  There is a bathroom with a shower stall.  This would be the perfect room for a teenager, nanny or grandparent.

Back to the front hall and up one level there is a bedroom with a single brass bed, a bedside table, a tall chest of drawers, a round table and nice lamp and a chair.  One window faces the back and one faces the side.  The en suite bathroom has a shower.

Up another level is the spacious and light sitting room which is divided into two areas.  The front part of the room has sofa covered in beige tattersall fabric, two beautiful 40's leather chairs, a tall wing chair, interesting books on every wall and a nice decorative fireplace.  French doors open onto a small wisteria covered Juliet balcony that overlooks the pretty street. The back of the living room is the TV area.  It has a nice sofa covered in mint greet, two occasional chairs, an antique corner cupboard, Sky TV and a DVD player, more books.  A tall window overlooks the back garden.

Up a half landing is a laundry room that has a washer and dryer and a window facing the back.

Up again to a bedroom that has a queen bed with a white Matelassé bedspread, a chest of drawers, a closet and a window that faces the side.  The en suite bathroom has a small tub with a hand-held shower.

Up again to the master bedroom that has a king bed with a beautiful, tall oak headboard with fabric inserts matching the bedspread.  There is a chest of drawers, a white dressing table and chair, a funny bench, a large closet.  Niches next to the bed hold many books, family photos and personal mementos.  Two large windows face the street.  The very large en suite bathroom has a a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and there is a separate shower stall.

This wonderful house is 3 minutes from the Kings Road and its many shops, bistros, restaurants and the Chelsea Library.  Cleaning, Monday-Friday is included.   We regret that this house is not suitable for children under 12.

Unusual or interesting place in the area
Cheyne Walk, is a historic street in Chelsea, The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It takes its name from William Lord Cheyne who owned the manor of Chelsea until 1712.. Most of the houses were built in the early 18th century. Before the construction in the 19th century of the busy Embankment, which now runs in front of it, the houses fronted the River Thames. The most prominent building is Carlyle Mansions.
