Abingdon Road House
Kensington, London
This is a very terrific, spacious, warm and interesting house. It is a 4-story period house in a very sought-after residential area in smart, posh Kensington. When we visited, the enormous wisteria was blooming and the heavenly fragrance permeated the entire block.
Walk through a little front garden and open the door to a vestibule and then through a glass door into the front hall. The drawing room is on the right of the hall. It is furnished with two comfortable sofas covered in white cotton, two easy chairs covered in yellow fabric, a decorative fireplace, a large bay window that looks onto the front garden. This is all excellent, but what really caught our interest were the many framed antique prints that cover all of the walls. We wanted to stay for hours examining those beautiful prints.
The back part of the drawing room has a baby grand piano, another decorative fireplace, a chest of drawers and several chairs. And more of those interesting prints. A French door opens to a small, private patio.
Return to the front hall and go down to a half-landing where there is a small book-lined study with a large, modern desk. A window looks to the back garden. More framed prints hang on the walls.
Go on down the stairs to the kitchen and dining room – where these rooms always were in the old houses. What a surprise! The enormous dining room, at the front of the house, is furnished in rich contemporary style. The long table seats 8 on red velvet chairs. A book-filled bookcase is on either site of a gas heating stove. A beautiful rug covers a tile floor. This extraordinary room is beautiful, colorful and bright. Prints and original art cover the walls. Large bay windows and a French door open to a plant-filled staircase that goes up to the front garden.
The bright kitchen is at the back of the dining room. It, too, is very large and very modern, state of the art. It has a large refrigerator, a smaller drinks refrigerator and a wine cooler. There are two ovens, a stove top, dishwasher, enormous amounts of storage, granite counter tops and open shelving that displays pretty dishes. A glass door opens onto the back paved patio that has a table and chairs and beautiful flower borders.
A second study is on the half-landing between the main floor and the second floor. It is furnished with handsome antiques, a bookcase and an antique desk and chair that face the back garden.
Walk a few steps up to the very large master bedroom. It has a king bed, a chest of drawers, excellent closet space, a decorative marble fireplace and beautiful art on the walls. Two large windows look over the street. The large en suite bathroom has two sinks, a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and a separate shower stall. The next half-landing has the laundry with a washer and dryer.
The next two bedrooms are very nice. Each bedroom has two single iron twin beds which were pushed together and each has very good closet space. One of the bedrooms has two beautiful painted armoires.
The fourth bedroom is very sweet. It has a large single bed with a rattan headboard, a rattan chest of drawers, a clothes cupboard. A large window faces the back garden.
The big hallway bathroom has a blue claw foot tub with a hand-held shower and a shower over the tub.
A roof terrace, up another level, has a table and chairs and wonderful views over London. It's like something from a movie.
This superb house is on a beautiful street that is conveniently located for the many shops, restaurants and attractions of Kensington High Street and Holland Park.
The price includes gas and electricity, use of all machines in the property, TV, DVD player, fresh linen weekly, cleaning on your departure and a Greeter who will meet you at the property on arrival and see you out on departure. A security deposit of £300 to £1000 is held by credit card until after departure.
