Villa Rosa Thatched Cottage

County Kerry, Ireland

spacer line As soon as you approach this beautiful house you'll know that something special awaits you.  While it's recently built, the style and workmanship remind one of houses from an earlier time.  Its style is authentic.  The luxurious touches are those of master craftspeople.

Enter into a very nice, wide hallway that has gray walls and crisp white woodwork.  A guest powder room is on the left – it has a photo of Mohammed Ali and a huge ornate mirror.

Straight back from the entry hall, the large living room has two comfortable sofas each covered in brown cotton, an easy chair, a bench, a square coffee table and a large wood-burning fireplace.  Left of the fireplace, a bookcase holds a flat-screen TV and a DVD player.

There are many decorative touches in the room, all stylish and beautiful.  Many of these accessories come from Asia and South America.  It forms part of a very good collection.  Floors are wide planks with some lavender Berber area rugs.

In the living room two sets of French doors open onto a wide, private stone patio that has a dining table and 10 chairs  and a built-in barbecue.  There is a large grassy area and then the tree lined bank of the Kenmare River just beyond the patio.

The dining room is on the right of the living room, behind the fireplace.  An elegant table seats 10 comfortably.  A beautiful serving console complements the dining table.  Three sets of French doors open onto the same patio.

The kitchen, off the dining room, is superb.  It has a 5-burner Godin stove that faces the dining room so that a cook can either demonstrate what is being made or can chat with the diners.  There is a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave.  Glass-fronted cupboards hold best-quality dishes and glassware.  Windows look to the front garden.  Walls hold hanging herbs and photographs of Marilyn Monroe and animals.

An adjacent pantry has a door leading to the front garden.  It houses the washer and dryer, but you can send items to the hotel laundry, if you prefer.

Two bedrooms are on the main floor at the end of a long hallway that has photographs on the walls..

One bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds.  It has a beige fabric headboard and a dark brown bedspread.  There is a built-in wardrobe, a dressing table, an easy chair and a cupboard with a flat-screen TV and a DVD player.  Colors are rich beige and brown.  Photographs of spiral patterns hang on the walls.  A French doors open onto a private patio in a beautiful garden area.

The large marble en suite bathroom has a large, deep tub with a hand-held shower that's tucked under a back window.  There is a separate shower stall, a bidet, a toilet and double sinks.

Across the hall, the second bedroom also has a king bed that can convert to twin beds (as in our photo).  This bedroom is nearly identical to the first bedroom (including the flat-screen TV and DVD player) except that the colors are lighter beige and the photographs are of cityscapes.

The en suite bathroom is the same as the first bedroom except this bathroom has only a large shower stall, no bathtub.

Upstairs, there is a wide balcony that is actually a perfect study or private space.  Overlooking the dining room, It has a sitting area, a desk, bookshelves that hold interesting books for you to read while you are there.  This space is both intimate and open, a quiet perch in which to have some private time.

The third bedroom, at the top of the stairs, has a king bed that can covert to twin beds.  The beautiful cover is green, scarlet and purple stripes.  There is a huge built-in clothes cupboard, a dressing table, two easy chairs covered in purple and tan, a bookcase that has a flat-screen TV and a DVD player.  Photos are of the Eiffel Tower.  Two sets of demi-lune windows let in air and sky.  A French door opens onto a Juliet balcony that overlooks the grounds and the woods beyond that.

The en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and there is a separate shower stall as well.  There is a bidet, a toilet and double sinks.

At the end of the hall, the fourth bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds.  There is a beige fabric headboard.  The bedspread has brown, dark brown and beige stripes.  A bench is placed at the foot of the bed.  There are cupboards and a built-in closet and bookshelves, a flat-screen TV and DVD player.  Photos of antique African jewelry hang over the bed.  As in the third bedroom, two sets of demi-lune windows let in air and sky.  Two sets of French doors open onto Juliet balconies.

The rugged peninsula is shared between counties Cork adn Kerry. It offers a combination of mountain and costal scenery and is completely unmissable. Dotted along the route are colourful towns and villages, sheltered bays, river valleys and ancient monuments.
