Quin – Irish Castle Keep & Coach House
County Clare, Ireland
As a castle rental in Ireland, Ballyhannon Castle is a magnificent medieval Irish vacation rental (self-catering) Celtic Castle dating back to the 15th century. It is one of the last remaining intact medieval Irish castles, and although it is now privately owned, the current owner has opened it up as an Irish vacation rental / self catering castle for hire for all to enjoy, and to experience how our Irish ancestors lived in the 1400’s. It’s secluded though central location in Ireland has made it one of the most sought after venues for medieval Irish castle weddings and events, or for anyone who simply wants to rent a castle in Ireland as an Irish self catering vacation rental.
Ballyhannon Castle (also known as Castlefergus) is registered as a “Listed/Protected” property and a “Recorded Monument” in the Irish Governmental Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, meaning that it is intrinsically of significant historic, architectural and aesthetic interest. The fortunate fact that the private owner has opened up this national monument as an Irish vacation rental / self catering castle allows anyone to exclusively rent a castle in Ireland for their medieval wedding, honeymoon, family reunion or other milestone, or just to have the unique experience of staying in a castle with no one other than the members of one’s own group.
Upon entering the medieval entrance arch of Ballyhannon, visitors to the Castle have, almost without exception, described their first impression as: “if having just stepped from a time machine, an immediate sense of having been transported back in time through turbulent centuries of Irish history. The impact of this rare and authentic castle’s historic appeal and significance is literally instant. Six-feet thick battle-impenetrable walls, winding spiral stone staircase, oak-beamed ceilings and flagstone floors will offer you this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience how they lived back in 1490 when Ballyhannon Castle was built.”
For those of you who don’t wish to compromise on all of your present day comforts, all modern conveniences and appliances have been sensitively and discreetly incorporated into this 600 years old castle! That said, it must be emphasized that this is a 15th century castle in every other sense.
By really what is historic coincidence, Ballyhannon Castle is exceptionally well located for 21st century visitors to Irish shores. It is strategically and conveniently at the heart of the west coast of Ireland. It is beside
Shannon International airport for those traveling to Ireland from abroad, yet in a rural setting within its own territorial stone-walled perimeter surrounded by farmland, and overlooks the Shannon Estuary leading to the Atlantic ocean. It is at the end of a long private avenue (cul-de-sac). From the privacy and serenity of this garrisoned Irish castle, it is an ideal focal point from which to explore the wild natural beauty of the west of Ireland. Located between Bunratty Castle & Folk Park and the Aillwee Caves, Ballyhannon Castle is at the heart of traditional Ireland.
The exclusive privacy of this vacation rental castle accommodation especially offers peace and tranquility to those who want to rent an Irish castle to simply have “time out”, and its prime location in Quin, County Clare means that it is adjacent to all attractions for those with a taste for exploring the real traditional Ireland. It is a self catering vacation rental in Ireland with a difference, and is chosen by many for special family occasions and gatherings.

Unusual or interesting place in the area Castlefergus Riding School is located adjacent to our property and they offer our guests the option to take lessons or usually the option of pony treks which run past the fields of Ballyhannon and out into the neighbouring country fields. Golfing - the world famous links course of Lahinch (two courses) are closeby, less than 40 minutes drive away. So too is Doonbeg which is also a world-class course links course. There are several other inland and local courses much closer to Ballyhannon, and the closest one of all is that of the local 5 star Dromoland Castle Hotel which is open to all. The Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Lahinch Beach, Fanore, Doolin ... all world-famous sites to see in Ireland are all within easy access of Ballyhannon and all less than one hour away. Bunratty Castle and village is only 15 minutes away and again is a very famous tourist attraction. Our Location is a huge advantage to our tourist premises because we offer a very tranquil, private and rural setting (not to mention historic and ususual!) and still we're located only minutes away from the motorway serving the closeby international airport and roads for the tourist must-sees of the West of Ireland.

One thing visitors should not miss Having their very own Irish Banquet Night at Ballyhannon Castle! It's always very popular, and is a perfect finish to an amazing experience. Guests can hire in a caterer (or if they prefer, do their own catering) to provide a feast for the evening. Following the meal (of their own choice, as elaborate as they choose), they have the choice of having traditional Irish musicians come play for the night. (Uilleann pipes, fiddles, buzzuki, banjo, tin whistles, accordians, etc..... as many instruments as they wish). Singers, story-tellers (folklore and songs), Irish dancers - the night can be as simple or as elaborate as guests would like. And perhpas to capture and remember the memory forever - a photographer who takes plenty of photos which are offerd on a cd. We are happy to assist our guests in making arrangements for their own banquet. Alternatively and not as intimate - guests may attend the banquets held at the famous Bunratty or Knappogue Castles. These are very popular tourist attractions.
