Kinsale – Harbor View House

County Cork, Ireland

spacer line

This is a terrific house overlooking Kinsale harbor.  It is beautifully decorated and very welcoming.  We love it and we think you will too.  It's a modern house that is built for ease, and comfort.  There are panoramic views of Kinsale's tranquil harbor from most of the rooms.

You enter the house at the back of the building next to a landscaped hillside.  Step into a long hallway that has a tiled bathroom on the left.

The den is off this hallway. It has large wood shutter doors that can cover the door and floor to ceiling windows.  There is a sofa and an easy chair and tall book shelves that hold a Sky TV and a DVD player.   A closet houses the washer and dryer and a small sink.  The harbor views from this room are breathtaking.

One bedroom is on this floor.  It has a queen bed with a walnut headboard and the best linens.  Bedside tables and a chest of drawers provide excellent storage.  The large windows give fabulous views of the harbor. The large tiled bathroom has a shower stall.

The open-plan living/dining room and kitchen are upstairs.  The living area has two stylish and comfortable white love seats that flank the gas fireplace.  A brown leather ottoman also serves as a coffee table.  A flat screen Sky TV hangs above the fireplace.  Everything is crisp and clean and light and bright.  A sliding glass door opens onto a small balcony.

The dining area has beautiful walnut table and 6 sturdy wicker chairs.  Hard wood floors gleam.  Art is colorful and well-chosen.

The modern, compact kitchen has black granite counter tops, electric hob, white cabinets, butcher block island, gourmet cooking equipment and beautiful dishes and serving items.

Up another floor there are two more bedrooms. One bedroom has queen bed with a black headboard and beautiful rich linens. Other furniture includes bedside tables and a chest of drawers.  The sloped attic creates a cozy ambiance.  We took a photo of these two charming and funny characters.   A window looks out onto the harbor.

The other bedroom has twin beds that have tall wood headboards and lush linens and soft orange throws.  This bedroom, too, has beautiful harbor views.  It's not a large room, but it's very comfortable.

These two bedrooms share a hallway bathroom that has a tub with a hand-held shower

Children are warmly welcomed here.  The village centre is an easy 5-minute walk.  Old Head Golf Course is 10 minutes.  Kinsale has a natural enclosed harbor at the mouth of the Bandon River.  It is protected by two ancient fortresses, Charles Fort and James Fort, built in the early 17th century.  The town is well-known for its medieval Georgian and Victorian architecture and its maze of narrow streets.  Yachting, fine restaurants, authentic pubs and terrific shopping are at your door step.

Shannon Airport is 63 miles.  Cork is 15 miles.  Killarney is 50 miles.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE:

This property is accessible to people who can manage one flight of stairs.  One bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor, but the living areas are upstairs.

Unusual or interesting place in the area
Steeped in history, Cork City is fast gaining a reputation as one of Europe's hippest cities. Like Venice, the city is built upon water, and the city centre is built on an island in the River Lee, just upstream of Cork Harbour. The two channels of the River Lee which embrace the city centre are spanned by many bridges, and this gives the city a distinctive continental air. Exploring Cork is an enjoyable, multi-day pursuit. Ring the Shandon Bells in the 300 year-old tower of St. Anne's Church, and marvel at the French Gothic spires of St. Finbarre's Cathedral. You will discover unique shopping and dining options, including the English Market, with its stalls selling foods from all over the world, and numerous pedestrian walkways and sidewalks flanked by smart boutiques and major department stores. At every corner you'll come across another panoramic view, another interesting architectural feature and some of the best art galleries, theatres and museums in Ireland. No visit would be complete without a trip to Blarney Castle, home to the famous Blarney Stone. Tradition says that those who kiss the stone will receive the gift of eloquence. You can also wander around the narrow streets of Kinsale, the Gourmet Capital of Ireland. If cultural overload sets in, there are numerous picturesque fishing villages within easy reach that offer a welcome break to the bustle of the city. Think fishing on the Rivers Lee and Blackwater, sailing in one of the picturesque harbours or have a drop of real Irish brew - there are bars, breweries and a distillery to choose from. If Irish sports are your interest, then visit the local GAA grounds to enjoy Gaelic hurling and football. Or spend an exciting night watching greyhound racing at Curraheen Park - a unique experience. Whether strolling down historical streets, shopping, exploring the surrounding countryside, or simply basking in the City's hospitality, Cork City is an experience always to be remembered and cherished.
